Views

Group the project's models that belong together — a floor, a phase, a variant — and open them in the 3D viewer in one go.

A view is a named set of a project's models that belong together: a floor, a phase, a variant. It has one main model, which the others are positioned against, and the levels they are positioned by. A view holds no copy of its models: one model can be in as many views as you like, and a model that gets a new version is the new version in every view.

Views are under Models → Views. Open a view in the 3D viewer to see all its models together, use it as the scope of a Progress dashboard, or narrow it down to some elements with a search set.

Who can do what

Views belong to the models: what you may do with them comes from the Models level of your permission profile on the project. Each level includes the ones before it, and organization owners and admins can do everything.

With the default profiles, Manager has full control of models and views; Contributor, Field, Partner and Viewer can only view them.

Create a view

Open Views and click New view.

Give it a name, pick its models and choose the Main model. The other models are positioned against it.

Click Create view. The view's page opens.

The Views list shows each view's main model, how many models and levels it has, and when it was last updated. Filter it by name or description.

Change a view

On the view's page you edit its name and description, and on its tabs:

  • Models: add the project's models with Add models, take one out with Remove from view, and make another one the main model from a model's menu. Removing a model from a view leaves the model in the project.
  • Positioning Levels: the elevations the models are positioned against. Add them with Add level, or take the storeys of the converted models with Import from models. Each level has a name, an elevation in metres and an Active switch; one can be the main level.

Click Save to keep your changes. If the main model leaves the view, the first remaining model takes over.

Activity shows the view's history: who changed its name, models, main model or levels, and when.

Open a view in the 3D viewer

Choose Open in viewer in the view's header to load all its converted models together. The viewer opens the view as it is saved, not your unsaved changes. The main model loads first, and the others are lined up against it. The viewer keeps to the view's models: the Models panel turns each off and on, but does not add others — to combine different models, change the view. To see a search set, open it from the search set's own page.

See Models for moving around, selecting elements and the viewer's other panels.

Delete a view

On the view's page, choose Delete view in its menu and confirm. Only the grouping is removed: its models stay in the project. Its history stays in the project's activity.

Good to know

  • Deleting a model takes it out of every view. A view whose main model is deleted keeps its other models.
  • Progress scopes based on a view follow it: add a model to the view and the scope counts it too. Deleting the view leaves those scopes counting nothing until you point them elsewhere. See Progress.
  • Limits. A view holds up to 500 models and 200 levels.
  • Activity. Every view created, changed or deleted is listed in the project's Activity, under Views.
  • API. Views can be read and written with an API key that has the model scope. See the API reference for views.
