Markers

Print the QR markers the AR app scans to line the models up with the building on site, and follow where each one was placed.

A marker is a printed QR code. You generate markers in the web app, print them, and stick them on site. The GAMMA AR app scans a marker to line the model up with the real building, and reports back where the marker sits in the model: its position, its rotation and the element it is stuck on.

Markers have their own page in the project, Markers, and their own line in the permission profiles. They are not attached to issues; both are placed in the project's models and both show up in the 3D viewer.

Who can do what

What you may do with markers comes from the Markers level of your permission profile on the project: No access, View, Create, Edit or Full control, each including the ones before it. Organization owners and admins can do everything, whatever their profile.

With the default profiles, Manager has full control of markers, Contributor can edit them, and Field, Partner and Viewer can view them and move them on site. Markers are made in the office before going to the field; on site, whoever finds one out of place moves it. See permission profiles.

Generate and print markers

Open Markers and choose Generate empty markers.

Enter How many, from 1 to 100, and choose Generate.

The markers are created with the next numbers and their PDF downloads straight away. Print it.

The PDF starts with a guide for the AR app, then one QR sticker page per marker, and a page of its images when it has any. The guide is in your language where one exists, otherwise in English.

To print markers again, select them and choose Download PDF, or choose it with nothing selected for all of them, up to 1,000 markers. That PDF is made in the background and reaches you as a notification and an email with the download link, like the project's other exports.

Each marker has a key such as v1_-------7, which is what the QR code holds. The number is never reused, even after the marker is deleted, so a sticker on site can never point at a different marker.

Find markers

The Markers page lists the project's markers by number, with their key, name and whether they have been placed. Type in the search box to find a marker by name, key, number or description, and open Filters to show only the markers that are Placed or Not placed.

Place and look after markers

Markers are placed from the AR app: when it scans a marker on site, it reports the marker's position, rotation and the model element it sits on. Scanning it again replaces the placement. The list shows Placed or Not placed.

Click a marker to open it:

  • rename it and add a description, which is printed on its page,
  • see the element it was placed on, and choose Open in viewer to open the model looking at the marker,
  • add images, for example a photo of where it is stuck; marker images must be JPEG.

The Activity tab shows every change to the marker and every placement, newest first. Long histories load a page at a time: choose Show older at the end for more.

See markers in the 3D viewer

The viewer's Markers panel lists the project's placed markers, searchable by name, number or key, and Show markers turns them on and off in the model. Click one to bring it into view. A marker the AR app placed and turned is drawn as its printed sheet, with its real QR code, at the angle it was stuck; one placed without a rotation is drawn as a pin. See Models for the viewer itself.

Delete a marker

Choose the delete action on the row and confirm with Delete marker. The marker and its images are removed for good, and its number is not handed out again. Its history stays in the project's activity.

Good to know

  • One export of markers takes up to 1,000 of them. For more, select fewer and export in parts.
  • Files follow the project's attachment rules; marker images must be JPEG.
  • Activity. Every marker created, changed, placed or deleted is listed in the project's Activity, under Markers.
  • API. Markers can be read and written with an API key that has the marker scope. The AR app places them through the same API. See the API reference for markers.
